Cribby’s debut as Mount Si baseball coach ruined by Redmond star in blowout loss, 3-14-11
The Mount Si Wildcats baseball team opened the Elliott Cribby era last night on a rather sour note, as they were blown out by the Redmond Mustangs.
The Wildcats fell 11-1 in six innings at Hartman Park, with the game called early by the 10-run mercy rule. Dustin Breshears recorded the only hit and run for the Wildcats, and that came in the fourth, well after the Redmond bats, specifically their top hitter, Dylan Davis, had started doing big damage.
Davis, seen as possibly Washington state’s top MLB draft prospect among in-state high school players, showed why last night. He hit two home runs, one in the first then one again in the third, both of which were two-run shots. In total, Davis went 3-3, scored four runs and added five RBI’s, likely impressing pro scouts who may have been on hand to watch him compete.
Both Reece Karalus and Trevor Taylor got roughed up on the mound for the Wildcats; Karalus gave up five runs – all earned, in three innings of work, walking four, while Taylor pitched two innings, and gave up three runs. Travis Hilleary came in to pitch the sixth, and he, too, gave up three runs, not making it out of the inning before the mercy rule was invoked.
The Wildcats look to rebound tomorrow, but it will not be an easy test. Mount Si travels to Bothell to face the Cougars, at 3:45 p.m.
