Wildcat baseball braves the rain to blow out Auburn Mountainview, 3-21-11
The Mount Si Wildcat baseball team opened their home schedule in style this afternoon, braving the cold, wet weather to host the Auburn Mountainview Lions. Fortunately for the Wildcats, their bats withstood the weather, as they made quick work of the SPSL team.

The Wildcats opened things against Mountainview starter Chris Hunter with an offensive explosion in the first. With Dustin Breshears on base after walking to open the game, Proudfoot lined a single which was misplayed a couple of times by the Lion defense, enabling both runners to score to make it 2-0. A double by Nate Sinner later in the inning scored two more runs, and after all was said and done, it was 6-0. The Lions scored a couple of runs in the second, but then the Mount Si bats unloaded again in the bottom of that frame, with the home run by Proudfoot keying the onslaught. The shot was hit down the left field line, and it made it just past the foul pole and was called fair by umpires.
Mount Si scored three more times in the third to seal the deal, with the Brown blast being the main factor, then it was surviving the rain and cold conditions to make the game official. Brown’s home run was hit through the rain and strong breeze to right field.
At least two college scouts were on hand to see parts of the game, and both likely left impressed with what they saw. The scouts represented Seattle University and Green River Community College.
Robb Lane went 2-3 with a run and an RBI; his brother Trevor went 2-2 and scored three runs himself, while both Brown and Proudfoot each went 2-4, drove in three runs and scored twice each. Sinner drove in three runs and scored twice as part of his 2-2 effort. Mount Si pounded out 15 hits as a team.
Karalus rebounded from his rough outing last Monday at Redmond with a strong three inning effort. The junior only gave up three hits and struck out six. McClain pitched two innings and gave up the other hit, and struck out two.
The Wildcats have in their last two games combined outscored opponents 23-4, so their offense clearly is working on all cylinders. Mount Si will look to continue this offensive tear tomorrow on the road at Skyline. Game time is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
