BREAKING: Mount Si bats unload once more, this time on Kingco 4A rival, 3-22-11

The Mount Si Wildcats baseball team this afternoon continued their offensive onslaught. On the heels of a blowout win yesterday, the Wildcats bats remained hot, helping them earn another big win, this time over a Kingco 4A rival.

Tim Proudfoot homered for the second time in as many days, and the Wildcats rallied from a 5-2 hole after one and scored nine unanswered runs from there en route to an 11-5 pasting of the Skyline Spartans at Skyline High School.

Proudfoot’s homer came in the first off Spartans starting pitcher Ryan Parks, on a two ball no strike count. Skyline responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame off Mount Si starter Trevor Lane. Lane settled down, and the Wildcat bats did the rest.

A Trevor Lane single scored his brother Robb in the third to start the comeback, then with Spartan reliever Brandon Lundeberg on the mound in the fourth, Robb Lane doubled to score Daniel Besmer to tie the game at 5-5. Nate Sinner scored earlier in the frame on a Dustin Breshears double play. Robb Lane finished the day 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Mount Si’s bats exploded in the fifth. A single by Reece Karalus scored Max Brown to give the Wildcats the lead to stay at 6-5, then the Wildcats scored three more runs in the frame. Ryan Atkinson singled to score Justin Henak, then Robb Lane singled to score Sinner, then Atkinson scored himself on a Lundeberg wild pitch. The sophomore finished 2-3 with that run scored. Shane Dixon then came in to pitch the bottom of the fifth and proceeded to shut down the Spartan bats the rest of the way. Dixon pitched three innings, gave up just one hit and struck out three. Trevor Lane got the win, surviving that five-spot in the first to throw well for four innings. He gave up six hits and three earned runs, and struck out five.

Dixon added a little offense himself in the sixth; off Skyline’s second reliever of the day, Connor Gilchrist, Dixon tripled to score Trevor Lane, then Besmer singled to score Dixon.

Since their opening night loss to Redmond, the Wildcats have outscored opponents 34-9, helping them earn a preseason #8 ranking by the Seattle Times. Look for them to remain ranked as long as their offense continues to shine.

Mount Si hosts Ellensburg next Monday at 4:00 p.m., weather and pass conditions permitting.
