Mount Si’s coach, Darren Brown, was interviewed the other day by the Seattle Times about what fans can look forward to this spring in boys’ soccer. We bring this to you because we also got some numbers from Brown which suggest that his Wildcats could be on the verge of a strong season after a not-so-strong start.

The Wildcats, after starting out 1-2 in league, as you know have won two straight to get into a third-place tie with Bellevue at 3-2 in league. Mount Si is at 3-3-1 overall, and they boast three of the top eight scorers in the league. Sophomore Dane Aldrich is tied for the league lead in goals with four, while senior Eric Baumgardner has two goals and four assists on the season and sophomore Kody Clearman has three goals and two helpers. Mount Si is second in the league offensively (goals for), while senior Dillon Oord is getting it done in goal, with three shut-outs to his credit. He and sophomore Alex Anderson, who contributed to the shutout last Friday night in the win over Juanita, have held their own in goal, with the fourth-best goals allowed result in the league, most of that coming early in the season.

Mount Si is at Interlake Tuesday, and the matchup looks winnable, as Interlake is 1-4 on the season. But the Saints boast a top scorer themselves; Christian Rodriguez is among the players tied with Aldrich for the goal-scoring lead in Kingco, so the Wildcat defense will need to do solid work on him to have success in this matchup Tuesday. It also is a road game for Mount Si, and both losses this season in league have been on the road.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Interlake and it is the only Wildcat soccer game over spring break. They will not return home until April 15th.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Some of the interview may be partially inaubile. This interview took place during a passing period at Mount Si HS on Thursday, and you will be able to tell the bell noise, the intercom noise and the background noise from the hallway outside the classroom where this took place, which we think is the one off the gym across from the training room.
