Mount Si baseball uses longball to rout Liberty, 4-11-11
There is a saying in baseball about how women love home runs. Well, the Mount Si Wildcats yesterday might have attracted a few more ladies to their games the remainder of the season.
The Wildcats hit five home runs, three by one player alone and rolled over the Liberty Patriots 11-0 in a game called after one out in the sixth due to the mercy rule, which was invoked on, you guessed it, a home run.
Senior Tim Proudfoot hit three home runs as part of a 3-4 day. Senior Max Brown went 2-3 with a homer and junior Reece Karalus also hit it out for the Wildcats, who extended their winning streak to eight with the victory.
The onslaught started in the first, and it all came with two outs. First, Proudfoot hit his first over the fence, a ball which barely scraped by the left field foul pole for a solo shot. Then after pitcher Trevor Lane singled and Brown walked, Karalus came up and smacked a Patriot pitch over the left center field fence just out of the reach of the Liberty center fielder, scoring three and making it 4-0 Mount Si.
Mount Si scored three more in the second. It started with a Dustin Breshears single which scored Nate Sinner, then after Robb Lane struck out, Proudfoot came up and crushed a pitch over the left field fence for a two-run shot to make it 7-0. He then came up in the fourth and did it one more time, this time halfway up the bank behind right center field for another solo shot which made it 8-0.
Proudfoot then delivered with the glove, making a nice play on a Liberty line drive in the fifth, then making an even better play on another line drive in the sixth which allowed Mount Si to turn a double play on that play for two outs.
With the score 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Brown, with Trevor Lane on after he walked, crushed a pitch over the left field fence for a homer which slammed the door shut on this one. The two-run shot made the score 11-0.
Trevor Lane had a nice day on the mound, going four innings, giving up two hits while striking out eight.
