Wildcat baseball speeds to win at Bellevue, 4-20-11

Mount Si’s baseball team continued on its tear today, using speed, a big inning and strong performances from the bottom half of their order to score a blowout win over the Bellevue Wolverines at Bellevue High School.

Nate Sinner went 3-3 with a run and an RBI and Reece Karalus went 2-3 with two runs and two RBI’s as the Wildcats blasted Bellevue 13-3 in five innings, with the game called early due to the mercy rule. Trevor Taylor pitched a complete game five inning two hitter for Mount Si, striking out three.

After Bellevue opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, the Wildcat bats went to work. And the speed was a big factor as well as Mount Si scored twice in the second. The Wildcats tied the game on a double steal of second and third, and Max Brown, who stole third on the play, also scored as the Wolverine catcher’s throw went awry on the caught stealing attempt. Karalus then scored on a wild pitch to give Mount Si the lead. The Wildcats were busy on the basepaths; the team stole a total of seven bases, and also took advantage of two Bellevue wild pitches. The Wolverines on the day committed five errors.

In the third, the floodgates opened as the Wildcats scored six times. Karalus doubled to score Brown and Trevor Lane. Sinner then doubled to score Karalus, and it was 5-1 Mount Si. Later, Sinner and Derek Welsh scored on a triple by Shane Dixon, who then scored himself on a Dustin Breshears single. Bellevue scored twice in the bottom of that frame, only to see the Wildcat bats respond in the fourth, getting those two runs back. First, Tim Proudfoot scored on a Brown single, then the senior himself crossed the plate on a balk called by umpires on the Wolverine pitcher.

The fifth inning, with Mount Si up now 10-3, saw three more Wildcat runs. Breshears and backup catcher Brian Woolley scored on a groundball by Proudfoot which was misplayed by the Bellevue shortstop, then the Mount Si senior scored on a groundout by Trevor Lane.

The Wildcats now head into a big game Friday against Mercer Island. A Wildcat win puts them on track for a league regular season title and #1 seed into the Kingco Tournament. First pitch is at 4:30.
