Mount Si baseball fights off Juanita, 4-29-11

Mount Si opened the first of three straight days of games with a hard-fought road win last night against the Juanita Rebels at Lee Johnson Field in Kirkland. The Wildcats, after it appeared they had things in hand following a big sixth inning, had to withstand a similarly big Juanita response in that same frame to post a 12-8 win.

Trevor Lane went 2-4 with a home run to lead Mount Si, who rebounded from an early 1-0 deficit to take the lead in the fifth, then after blowing it open in the sixth, the Wildcats’ defense committed three errors in the bottom of that frame to help the Rebel rally against Mount Si starter Trevor Taylor, who went six solid innings to get the win to go to 5-0. Taylor gave up only five earned runs on seven hits, and struck out five.

Robb Lane returned after being out since last Wednesday’s game against Bellevue with an injury to his jaw and went 1-4 with three RBI’s. Nate Sinner also had a solid day, going 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Mount Si used its speed on the basepaths again to aid their cause, with eight stolen bases on the day; both Tim Proudfoot and Max Brown stole two each.

The Wildcats continue their string with a home game this afternoon against Sammamish at 4:30, leading into the big Safeco Field game tomorrow against Nathan Hale at 12:30. Full preview and pick for you in the morning here at the SVSJ.
