Mount Si soccer falls to Interlake, 4-29-11
The Interlake Saints rode the foot of their top young stars to post a big upset of Mount Si on the soccer pitch last night, leaving the Wildcats reeling just one week before the postseason.
Nick Roth scored early and late and led the Saints to a 3-1 win over Mount Si, who lost two of three games against teams which they had dominated earlier in the season.
Roth’s first goal came seconds into the contest, and was the result of a rebound off a defensive misplay by the Wildcats. The sophomore then scored in the 23rd minute thanks again to another defensive miscue by Mount Si. The Wildcats were getting chances throughout the contest, but nothing was going in. That changed, though in the 63rd minute, when Izzak Sinclair ripped one home and made it 2-1, exciting the Wildcat fan section who had been fairly silent throughout the contest prior to the goal. But Mount Si couldn’t muster any more scoring, and Roth closed it out with his third goal, a “hat trick”, with seconds left in stoppage time, giving the Saints their big win.
Mount Si is at Bellevue Tuesday and home next Friday against Mercer Island, with wins in both games now necessary to ensure solid playoff position. Where they go from there, though, will be anybody’s guess.
