Wednesday news and notes….
On the docket this morning:
-Major story out of Mount Si’s baseball program. One of the seniors from this year’s state champion team has signed with a D-I college to play next spring. SS Tim Proudfoot, who hit .360 this spring with 9 home runs and 21 RBI’s, has signed with Texas Tech, a Big 12 school from Lubbock, TX. Proudfoot, who had initially signed with Bellevue College, had been pursued for some time by TT and interest from the Red Raiders in Proudfoot intensified in the last couple of weeks and ultimately resulted in this signing, which took place yesterday.
Proudfoot becomes as far as we know the eighth Class of 2011 athlete from Mount Si to sign a D-I scholarship. He joins names such as Zoe Gogan (WSU volleyball), Ryan Herman (Santa Clara men’s soccer), Alexis Pearlstein (Ball State women’s soccer) and Joe Farmer (Illinois State football, FCS) to have signed on the dotted line with a D-I school. This, and the 26 overall signees, are school records.
Proudfoot becomes the first Mount Si player to play at the D-I level out of baseball since pitcher Adam Dentz, who signed with WSU following his graduation several years ago, and played one season with the Cougars.
-To soccer, and the nightcap yesterday down at the US Youth Soccer regionals in Boise did not go well for the U-17 Eastside FC Kovats (MSHS sr. to-be Chace Carlson plays for them), who fell 3-1 to La Roca Premier out of suburban Salt Lake City. This loss likely eliminates EFC after today’s play, although they still have a very slim chance of making the playoffs. They would need to win big against Sereno White from Phoenix and hope La Roca does the same to their opponents, the VFC Vipers from Oregon. Games go at 4:00 this afternoon in Boise, we’ll keep tabs.
Our feature games today we’ll be following are in the U-15 girls and U-16 boys. In the U-15 girls, Eastside FC Red Bialek, with MSHS so. to-be Sophia Rouches and coached by ex-Wildcat boys’ coach Tom Bialek, plays this morning against Las Vegas Premier White out of “Sin City.” Win or tie and EFC goes to the playoffs, a loss and things could get interesting. The Vegas side comes in off a win yesterday, so they could be a tough challenge for the local ladies. In the U-16 boys, Eastside FC 94 Red Strom, featuring incoming MSHS sr. Davis Karaica, takes on BNSC Premier out of Boise, as EFC looks to lock up the #1 slot out of their pool. Kickoff is at 2:00 this afternoon in the Idaho capital. In boys’ U-15 action, Crossfire Premier meets Neusport 96 Green out of Las Vegas this morning, needing to win big and get a lot of help to make the playoffs. Wildcat sophomore to-be Aaron Baumgardner plays on this team.
-Some other baseball action. The Toyota Baseball team, with several Mount Si players including Ryan Atkinson and Justin Henak, scored a 14-4 win Monday night over Wilkinson Baseball. This came off a strong performance at a tournament in Wenatchee. They won their game Sunday over a team from Montana 8-0. Atkinson drove in a run in that contest.
O’Brien Autogroup U-16s scored a 6-2 win Monday night over Narrows Baseball. Playing on that team this summer are Mount Si’ers Connor Swift, Griffin McLain and Carson Breshears, and Fall City resident Gunnar Buhner, who plays for Eastside Catholic. Former Mariner – and Mount Si assistant softball coach – Jay Buhner, Gunnar’s dad, is on the team’s coaching staff this summer.
-Also a softball item as well. The Team New Jersey tournament starts today in Philadelphia, PA. The lone Washington state team in the event are the WA Ladyhawks Miller U18 Gold, who include MSHS sr- to-be Maura Murphy. Ladyhawks will be looking to rebound after a tough weekend last weekend in the PGF tournament in Denver, in which they suffered a pair of one-run losses and did not qualify for the PGF nationals later this year. WLH will be playing a number of teams from the eastern U.S. in this event.
More later.
Daniel Besmer is on the Toyota baseball team also (with Ryan Atkinson & Justin Henak).

Thanks. I am aware of that, just didn’t have room to mention all the guys – there’s five of them on there IIRC – that are playing for them.
