Hope International volleyball opens season with two losses despite strong showing from Mount Si grad

Hope International University opened its women’s volleyball season yesterday, and a Mount Si grad had a big hand in their efforts. However, the performance of this former Wildcat turned out not to be enough as HIU fell twice.

The Royals started things off in their season-opening tournament at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA, taking on Concordia University of Portland. HIU senior Sine Schirmer, a 2008 grad of MSHS, had a team-high 12 kills in the match, but the Royals fell 25-17, 25-10 and 25-21. Schirmer also had eight digs to pace the HIU efforts in that category.

HIU in their nightcap yesterday in the tournament took on Rocky Mountain College out of Billings, MT. The Royals started out well, with a first set win, but RMC had the last laugh, winning the next three sets to take the match. Scores in favor of the ladies from Montana were 20-25, 25-10, 25-12, 25-15. Schirmer had another nice effort, with eight kills and nine digs.

HIU has two more games today. In game one this morning, they meet Oklahoma Baptist, then this afternoon, the Royals meet Kirkland’s Northwest University.
