Valley athletes on the college pitch, 8-19-11

On the college pitch yesterday, Valley athletes and their teams had mixed results.

Eastern Washington women fall in opener
Eastern Washington University’s women’s soccer team fell 4-1 to host Florida Gulf Coast in the Eagles’ season opener at FLGC’s tournament down in Fort Myers, FL. Brittney Conway, a junior who graduated from Mount Si HS in 2009 and transferred this year to EWU after two years playing for Bellevue College, played about 29 minutes coming off the bench in the contest, her first action with the Eagles this season. Conway recorded no stats of note.

Evergreen men shut out in home debut
The Evergreen State College men’s team was blanked 2-0 in their season opener on home soil down in Olympia yesterday by Everett’s Trinity Lutheran. Sophomore Dyson Fowler, a North Bend product who graduated in 2010 from Mount Si, started and played 79 minutes without recording any significant stats. Teammate – and fellow sophomore – Sam Joselyn, also a 2010 Mount Si grad, did not see any action in the contest. Joselyn also hails from North Bend.

Ball State women start out on the right foot
Ball State’s women’s team blanked Kentucky’s Murray State University 3-0 in the Cardinals’ opener at a tournament in Kentucky. BSU, out of Muncie, IN, has on its roster this fall freshman Alexis “Lexi” Pearlstein, a 2011 Mount Si grad from North Bend. She did not play in yesterday’s contest.

Tonight, one game, and it’s our first look at a Cedarcrest grad in action. Senior Evan Fassler, from Duvall, leads his CSU Bakersfield team into a battle against the Master’s College in a nonleague contest.
