Snoqualmie Days road run results

The fourth annual Snoqualmie Days road race yesterday morning drew over 600 runners racing one of two courses, a 5k and 10k, and under stellar weather conditions, top racers from Washington state scored wins in the event.

In the men’s 10k, Teshome Kokebe overcame strong challenges from several other runners, including top Valley finisher Sean Sundwall, to post the victory, his first. Kokebe clocked a time of 31:15 on the course which ran on streets in and around Snoqualmie. Sundwall, the Snoqualmie resident and Mount Si assistant track coach who organizes a number of local running events including this one, finished just 31 seconds back in third place.

Olympia’s Claudia Copeland scored the win for the women in the 10k race, clocking a time of 34:31, beating her closest challenger, Lois Keller, by over a minute.

In the 5k run, Olympia’s Jesse Stevick took the win on the men’s side in a close one, timing out at 15:45 on a course which ran through streets around downtown Snoqualmie.  Stevick finished just six seconds ahead of second place finisher Josiah Price. Ellensburg’s Amber Farthing came across the Cascades to take home the women’s title. She finished with a time of 18:40, nearly a minute ahead of her closest challenger, Jill Hasselbach.

Mount Si High School cross country followers will be pleased with this result. North Bend’s Richard Carmichael, set to lead the Wildcat boys’ XC team this fall as a senior, was the top Valley 5k finisher, scoring a time of 17:18, good for third overall on the men’s side. Carmichael was one of several Mount Si XC runners, who, along with their coach, Christine Kjenner, ran the 5k race, getting a good chance to get their legs ready to roll for another tough cross country season.
