Ladies first on a Tuesday….headlined by a blowout by Cedarcrest softball!!!

Good Tuesday morning. Big night ahead for Mount Si High School’s baseball and softball teams as both are playing in playoff games. We will have previews and picks for both games for you coming up. First, though, a look at last night’s softball.

The Wesco 2A/3A regular season is winding down, and Cedarcrest High School’s ladies seem to be getting warmed up for a long postseason run. They put pedal to metal last night in making short work of the lowly Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks at home in Duvall.

Pitcher Emma Duke was dominant, firing a two-hitter, and she was aided by a couple of homers, as the Red Wolves ran past the ladies from Marysville 16-0. The home runs came from seniors Maddie Knowles and Rachel Krivanek. Knowles’ homer came in the first inning, then Krivanek hit a grand slam in the fourth that sparked a nine-run inning for Cedarcrest, and Duke did the rest, allowing those two hits over five innings with the game ending early due to the 10-run mercy rule, striking out four.

CHS wraps up the regular season tomorrow at home against Edmonds-Woodway. As things stand currently, the Red Wolves have locked up the fourth-place spot in the Northwest 2A District computer rankings, which will earn them a trip to the district playoffs which start next Wednesday up in Sedro-Woolley. Cedarcrest will need to win just twice that day to punch a ticket to state.

The rest of last night’s action from our friends at GameChanger and their TeamManager app, available on phones and tablets in their app stores.

Marysville-Getchell 17, Shorecrest 0: Big games from both Hayden Kranz and Lily Balgos powered the Chargers to the blowout win at home over the Scots. Both players had three hits, two of them doubles, with Balgos scoring four runs and driving in two more while Kranz drove in five runs. The win moved Getchell (7-6 Wesco, 9-8 overall) above .500 on the season. Shorecrest remained winless in league at 0-14 with the loss. They are 4-15 overall.

Cascade 7, Archbishop Murphy 3: Taylor Browne powered the Bruins to a win over the Wildcats. The senior infielder went 3-4 scoring twice and driving in three more for Cascade, who finished the season at 13-2 in league play, 15-5 overall. Bruin ace Alexa Hamshaw worked a solid game in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned on five hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out 10, and she helped herself offensively hitting a pair of doubles and scoring two runs. Carly Madhavan led Murphy with two hits and two runs scored. Murphy’s season came to an end at 5-10 in league, 8-12 overall and they did advance to the Northwest 2A District tournament, expected as the seventh seed overall in the event.

Mountlake Terrace 6, Meadowdale 2: Kaylee Mitchell powered the Hawks to the win over the Mavericks in Mountlake Terrace. She doubled to headline a three-hit effort, scoring two runs and driving in a third, and helping Mountlake’s ace Ellie Gilbert, who returned the favor by having a good outing in the circle. Gilbert allowed two runs, one earned, on only two hits in a complete-game effort, walking five and striking out nine. Analise Griffiths led Meadowdale with a double and run scored, and pitcher Olivia Feistel also went the distance despite the challenges she faced against the Hawk hitters; Feistel ended up allowing all six runs, five earned, on 11 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Kingco Tournament-Skyline 7, Eastlake 2: In the opening round of the Kingco 4A playoffs up at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Skyline handled their neighborhood rivals on the strength of Sarah Parker’s two-hit effort; she also drove in a run, and Macen Staley also had two hits, scoring a run. Mia Atkins homered for Eastlake in the contest.

Kingco Tournament-Bothell 6, Woodinville 0: Cougar ace Julianne Rose fired a two-hitter striking out 16 and leading Bothell to the opening round playoff win, also at Inglemoor High School. Rachel Traxler was a home run short of hitting for the cycle leading the Cougars; she also walked, scored a run and drove in a second. Brooke Baker also paced Bothell, with two hits including a double, scoring two runs and driving in a third. Ava Clark had the two hits for the Falcons. Bothell will meet Skyline for the league title while Woodinville will take on Eastlake for district tournament seeding later this week.
