Thursday news….

Good Thursday morning. Light morning once again this morning but we have a couple of items for you. Mount Si High School has a couple of very good golfers among their student body after strong finishes yesterday at the Washington 4A high school state golf tournaments in Spokane.

Freshman Maia Miller led Mount Si’s girls, firing a 76 and finishing third in the 4A girls’ event at the Creek at Qualchan course along US 195 south of the Lilac City’s downtown. She carded a two-day total of 151, nine over on the par-72 layout. Mount Si’s team finished seventh overall in the team competition but had noticeable improvement from Kate Kremer, who fired a 92 and was 10 shots better than her 102 score on Monday. Sydnie Phengsavath carded a 101 which was a five-shot improvement off a 106 on Monday. Emma Sheeks and Hallie Kappen also competed for Mount Si and had similar results to Kremer and Phengsavath.

Junior Charlie Gaffney represented the Wildcat boys solo in the 4A boys event at nearby Indian Canyon Golf Club, and made his way into a four-way playoff for the title after carding a 69 to finish with a one-under overall score of 141. He, however, fell in that playoff and ended up third overall. Winning that playoff and the state title was Tyson Arthur from Sumner High School.

In the 2A tournaments east of downtown in the Spokane Valley, Cedarcrest’s Nash Swanson and Hadley McDonough both ended up mid-pack in the boys’ and girls’ events respectively. Swanson carded an 84 and finished tied for 27th in the boys’ event and McDonough carded a 93 and took a tie for 20th in the girls’ tournament.

Most of these golfers now will head into their summer schedule which will include events as part of the Washington Junior Golf Association tour. As has been our custom, we anticipate providing coverage of those events this summer for you here.

Baseball: CHS grad makes college move
Cedarcrest High School baseball alum Sheldon Egger will have a new college to call home next season.

Egger, the ace pitcher this spring for Edmonds Community College, announced on Tuesday his transfer to NCAA Division I Wofford College for this fall semester. Wofford is located in South Carolina. He will have two years of eligibility with the Terriers after finishing his junior college eligibility with Edmonds. Egger, from Duvall, is a 2022 Cedarcrest alum. He joins fellow NWAC Valley alums Jack Berg and Aidan Dougherty in finding D-I college homes next spring – Berg is going to the University of Arizona and Dougherty is going to the University of Connecticut. Both of them are from Snoqualmie and are Mount Si HS alums.

A congratulations to Egger on his decision.
