On this Friday…..

Good Friday morning. We lead off our goodies this morning with a look at youth baseball. GameChanger is powering our scores and highlights this morning. GameChanger and their app is available on phones and tablets in their app stores. If you are a Mount Si or Cedarcrest High School baseball or softball fan – or just want to follow the progress of local Little Leagues or youth baseball teams – you will want to download this app to keep tabs on all of the young athletes from your community this summer.

VeloTech 16U 5, New Level 2: At the GSL Tournaments’ Washington State Championship tournament in Kent, Sammamish-based Velo won their opener beating the Puyallup team. Mount Si’s Jimmy Pratapas was 0-2 with a run scored and RBI in this one for Velo.

Elevate Northwest Underclass 15U 6, Michael’s Toyota 15U Bears 5: At Edmonds Community College, the Woodinville-based squad held off their Preston-based rivals in another GSL tourney clash. Wildcat Austin Catini was 2-3 with a run scored in this one for the Bears.

Washington Awards 12, Washington A’s 18U Showcase 4: Bannerwood Park also is serving as a site for this weekend’s GSL event, and at the Bellevue park yesterday the Kirkland-based Awards crew cruised past the Sammamish-based A’s. Mount Si’s Kenny Russell, Taylor Davis and Ryan Ruffin all played in this one for the A’s. Russell went 1-3 while both Davis and Ruffin went hitless. Those two also pitched, with Davis allowing three runs on one hit walking three and striking out two in two innings and Ruffin struggling to the tune of five runs allowed on two hits and four walks without an out late in the contest. Neither received a decision. Davis also offensively walked once and scored two runs.

Northwest Bandits 18U Edwards 11, Kirkland Merchants 16U 3: The opener between the two Kirkland teams over at the Palouse Summer Series in Pullman saw a pair of Mount Si athletes square off against one another in this one. Eddie Coons paced the Bandits going 0-2 with a run scored while J.D. Tenhulzen went 0-1 for the Merchants.

WW Sweets Upperclass 9, Washington A’s 18U Premier 5: The A’s got knocked out of the main portion of the Curt Daniels tournament down in southwest Washington with this loss last night to their Sammamish-based rivals. Eastlake High School’s Jack Edmunds homered for Sweets in this one while Mount Si alumnus Clay Crooks was 0-2 with a walk for the A’s, also based in Sammamish.

Diamond Sports 5, VeloTech 16U 1: Velo finished out the opening day of play in the GSL event down in Kent dropping the contest to the Pierce County team. Pratapas, for Velo, was 0-3.

Elevate Northwest 16U Bugge 4, Prospect United 3: In GSL tourney action at Edmonds Community College, Woodinville-based Elevate got a good showing from Cedarcrest High School’s Reed Gilmore on the hill as they held off the Puyallup team. Gilmore allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits in 3 1/3 innings walking four and striking out two.

Kalispell Lakers 3, Kirkland Merchants 16U 1: The Lakers, from northwest Montana’s Flathead Valley region, broke a 1-1 tie scoring twice in the seventh off Merchant reliever Tenhulzen to take the win last night over at PSS. The Wildcat allowed those two seventh-inning runs on one hit walking two and striking out one, and got the losing decision in this one for KM.

Lacrosse: Mount Si Lacrosse boys’ high school team taking on top national competition
Mount Si Lacrosse Club’s high school boys program is back to work getting ready for the 2025 spring high school season, competing this weekend at a national tournament in Maryland. The event started yesterday with the team going 1-2 in opening day play at the National High School Lacrosse Series “White Session” event taking place outside of Baltimore.

Mount Si eked out an 11-9 win over the team from Baldwinsville High School in New York, but fell to two other teams, one each from Texas and Georgia. The squad has two more games this morning before playoffs start tomorrow. The event wraps up on Sunday, then the team will hop north to Boston to compete in the New England Lacrosse Series tournament next week.

We are working to see if we will be able to get stats for you from the games back there and if we do, we’ll have them here for you.

Golf: Another missed opportunity for Valley delegation in junior golf event
For the second time this week, a group of six boys and girls’ golfers from Snoqualmie had a chance to punch tickets to their Washington Junior Golf Association district tournament yesterday, but like their first opportunity Monday, it was all for naught.

All six of the Snoqualmie youngsters – boys’ golfers Nick Berg, Brody Logsdon, Max Mathias, Caden Peterson and Knox Gordon along with girls’ competitor Karly Warford – failed to qualify for the WJGA’s District 6 event, coming up short at their regular season event at Riverbend Golf Course in Kent. The closest to qualifying was Mathias, who finished one shot behind the qualifiers in the boys’ 14-15 age group in a tie for 13th following a round of 84 on the par-72 Riverbend layout. Warford was 12th in the girls 14-15 age group after an 86.

The delegation will reconvene in full on Monday for their third crack at qualifying for the district event. That tournament on Monday will be at NorthShore Golf Course in Tacoma.

Volleyball: Local athlete competes at national tournament
We this past weekend followed the USA Volleyball Nationals 12U tournament down in Dallas and the efforts of a Texas team who featured a player with past ties to the Valley. Well, a Bellevue team with another player with ties to the Valley was also in attendance down there.

Bellevue’s Sudden Impact 12U Monsoon took 55th in the event winning only once in nine tries on the weekend at the national event taking on a field of teams from around the country. The one win for the group came against a team from Colorado. The team featured player Peyton Stahlberg. Her mom, Cristin, is a former Mount Si assistant volleyball coach and the family resides in North Bend.

The national event for high-school age teams is next week in Las Vegas. DaKine Warriors 17U’s from Tacoma, featuring Isabelle Foote, daughter of retired Wildcat head coach Bonnie Foote, will be our featured team in coverage of that event.
