Baseball on the brain on this Father’s Day….

Good Sunday morning and happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there in the audience. We have a lot of baseball and softball for you this morning. We lead it off with baseball and West Coast League college summer action last night north of the border in British Columbia’s interior. First, we stop in the Okanagan and check in on Kelowna, where Cedarcrest High School alum Sheldon Egger delivered the goods for the Bellingham Bells in a strong effort. Egger pitched five innings of two-hit shutout baseball walking two and striking out two getting the win for the Bells as they blanked the Kelowna Falcons 6-0 in downtown Kelowna. Egger, from Duvall and who is headed to Wofford College this fall after finishing his junior college career with Edmonds Community College, graduated from CHS in 2022.

Meanwhile, up Highway 97 in Kamloops, the Wenatchee AppleSox cruised to a 13-2 win over the Kamloops NorthPaws at Norbrock Stadium. Mount Si High School alum Aidan Dougherty led the way for Wenatchee, going 2-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI’s. The effort for the Snoqualmie product, who is headed to the University of Connecticut this fall after finishing his junior college career at Linn-Benton CC down in Oregon, came off an 0-4 outing Friday for the Sox in a 4-0 win that opened the weekend set.

Action in both series finishes up this afternoon.

Honkers split: The Northwest Honkers split a non-league doubleheader at home in Snoqualmie last night with the Seattle Samurai’s, falling in the opener 6-5 before rallying for a 9-0 win in their nightcap. Cameron Padron went 2-3 with a run scored and RBI in the opener and followed that up with a 3-4 effort with a run scored in the nightcap pacing the Pacific International League team. He is from Duvall and a Cedarcrest High School alum. The Honkers are at Everett to meet the Everett Merchants today.

Kirkland Merchants 16U 1, Washington Rush Prep 0 (game one, doubleheader): The Merchants held off the Snohomish County-based Rush in the first of two at Mountlake Terrace High School. Mount Si High School’s J.D. Tenhulzen was 0-2 with a walk for the Kirkland-based Merchants.

Bellevue Dragons 18U Elite 12, GTS Underclass 0: The Dragons’ Valley contingent made their presence felt yesterday morning in their Boise Bullpen Series weekend opener blasting the Idaho team. Mount Si’s Tate Swanson homered, the first Wildcat baseball player that we know of that has homered this summer, and he was joined by fellow ‘Cat Will Gregory, who doubled twice to headline a three-hit effort, scoring two runs and driving in two more.

Several other local players chipped in for the Dragons. Mount Si’s Pat Rein tripled and scored a run, while fellow ‘Cat Tucker Koval had a hit and RBI. A third Mount Si’er, Jones Kasperson, was 2-3 with two runs scored and rounding it out, Eastside Catholic’s Connor Cunningham had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. He and his family recently moved out of the Valley, but still have a lot of extended relatives in our community.

Elevate Northwest 16U Bugge 5, Cascade Baseball Club 0: Elevate pitchers Jacob Martin and Cayden Hayes combined on a no-hitter for the Woodinville team in their win over the Maple Valley-area team at Edmonds Community College. Cedarcrest High School’s Reed Gilmore was 1-2 with a run scored in this one for Elevate.

Washington Rush Prep 2, Kirkland Merchants 16U 0 (game two, doubleheader): The Rush took the nightcap in another tight pitcher’s duel to split the pair at MTHS. Tenhulzen had a walk in his lone plate appearance for the Merchants.

Lakeside Gray 11, Washington Dirtbags 18U 1: The Issaquah-based Lakeside handled affairs with the Duvall-based Dirtbags at Courter Field on the Bellevue College campus in Bellevue. Cedarcrest’s delegation was led by Quinn Larson, who went 1-2. Fellow Red Wolves Luke Thompson, Tyler Questad and Jake Polacek were all hitless in this one and CHS’s Colt Norris pitched an inning and a third allowing a hit and walk but striking out two with no decision. There are several Mount Si players on the Dirtbags as well, and one, Cody Morse, was responsible for the offense in this one, going 1-2 with the lone Dirtbag RBI.

Rigby Mustangs 10, Bellevue Dragons 18U Elite 2: The Dragon bats, so hot in the morning, cooled off in their nightcap in Boise against the eastern Idaho team. Gregory’s bat stayed hot – he had three hits and drove in both Dragon runs – but the remainder of the Valley group had their challenges. Rein and Koval both went 1-3, with Rein scoring a run, and Swanson, Kasperson, Cunningham and Drew Hossfeld all went hitless in their at-bats. Hossfeld pitched the game for the Dragons allowing seven runs, six earned, on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings, walking two and taking the loss.

Rival Baseball 3, Elevate Northwest 16U Bugge 1: Elevate dropped their Edmonds nightcap to the area rivals. Gilmore was 0-2.
