Rounding it out on a Sunday…..

We have some softball for you now this morning. A pair of teams from the Snoqualmie-based Wildcat Fastpitch Club are in action this weekend at a USSSA weekend tournament down in Kent.

WFC’s 14U’s won once yesterday in three tries at the tournament. Lainey Myers led the way for the Wildcats with two hits, a run scored and two RBI’s for the WFC squad in a 12-5 win over local rival Sting Fastpitch. WFC fell in two other games to teams from the Tacoma area. Wildcats 12U Duxbury is also competing in the tournament and scored a win, loss and draw in their three games yesterday. The tournament wraps up today.

KB Riley repping Valley well in Tri-Cities: Fall City-based KB Fastpitch Riley won a game, fell in a second and tied two others yesterday at a tournament over in Pasco.

KB’s win came over a team from Oregon, with the loss coming to a team from Idaho and the ties coming against teams from our state. Action in the event continues today. The team is coached by Valley resident – and Mount Si High School alumnus – Chris Riley and features a number of young ladies who are students in the Snoqualmie Valley School District.

Colleges:

Western Washington 11, Montana State-Billings 5 (game one, doubleheader): The Vikings bested the Yellowjackets in the first of two on MSUB soil in Billings, MT. Freshman Riley Warden, she of Duvall and a 2023 Cedarcrest HS grad, was 1-3 in this one for MSUB.

Simmons 5, Anna Maria 0 (game one, doubleheader): The Sharks blanked the in-state rivals on only four hits taking the first of two games. Sophomore Emery Kreidel-Reimer, she of North Bend and a 2022 Mount Si HS grad, caught the contest for Simmons but had no official at-bats.

Fordham 6, Dayton 0 (game two, doubleheader): The Rams blanked the Flyers in the first of two at home in New York City. Senior Michaela Carter, she of Duvall and a 2019 Cedarcrest HS grad, was 1-3 with a run scored in the game for Fordham.

Iowa State 5, Oklahoma State 2: You have to love that freshman Maddie Knowles is being shown the ropes by a tremendous leader in teammate Camille Marin. Knowles is from Duvall and a 2023 Cedarcrest HS grad and is set to take over the catching duties with the Cyclones following Marin’s graduation after this season. Knowles saw action with no at-bats but it was Marin, from California, who showed Knowles and the rest of the team leadership with one swing of the bat. In the bottom of the seventh, with two runners on, Marin walked it off with a homer giving the Cyclones their signature series win of the season over the top-five ranked nationally Cowboy ladies at home in Ames, IA.

Western Washington 6, Montana State-Billings 4 (game two, doubleheader): Western took the nightcap and completed a sweep of the weekend set with the Yellowjackets. Warden was 1-4 in this one for MSUB.

Anna Maria 2, Simmons 0 (game two, doubleheader): Anna Maria scored all the runs they’d need in the second inning and took the nightcap at home in Brighton, MA, for the split. Kreidel-Reimer, for Simmons, was 0-1.

Dayton 2, Fordham 0 (game two, doubleheader): The Rams were held to three hits and fell to the Flyers in their nightcap last night, giving the visitors from Ohio a split of the double-dip. Carter was 0-2 in the game for Fordham.

Track & Field: LeBlanc featured in SPU article
Seattle Pacific University men’s distance runner Brennan LeBlanc is featured this morning by the Falcons’ athletic communications office in a story on their website after a solid showing yesterday at the Beach Invitational in southern California.

LeBlanc, a senior from Duvall and Cedarcrest HS grad, battled injuries to take sixth overall in the men’s 3000m steeplechase run clocking nine minutes, 38.30 seconds. The meet was hosted by Long Beach State University at their campus in Long Beach and was one of two big southern California meets this weekend that featured local athletes. More on LeBlanc here from the SPU story.

The second event involving locals was the Bryan Clay Invitational, and this was being hosted by Azusa Pacific University at their campus in Azusa, about a 30-minute drive east of downtown Los Angeles. There, four Mount Si High School alums competed. Freshman Jake Hall represented Simon Fraser University in the men’s 100m and finished 40th; Hall, from Snoqualmie, clocked 10.79 seconds. Two others, Ames Lake’s Paul Talens and North Bend’s Austin Gappa, competed in that meet’s men’s 3000m steeplechase. Talens, a junior at Gonzaga University, clocked just over nine minutes taking 30th, and Gappa finished 47th clocking 9:11.52. He was racing for Oregon’s George Fox University.

Rounding it out, Snoqualmie senior Joe Waskom, racing for the University of Washington, finished 56th in the men’s 1500m invitational run. He clocked 3:43.48.

Other action:

Byerly Invitational, Portland: Two ex-Wildcats competed at this meet in Portland hosted by Lewis & Clark College yesterday. Central Washington sophomore John “Jack” Pratapas, from North Bend, finished 11th in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:57.32. He also attempted to run the 5000m but did not finish that race. In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Oregon Tech sophomore Tychon Preston, from Snoqualmie, finished fourth, clocking 9:53.09.

Whitworth Twilight, Spokane: This past Thursday, the Pirates hosted a meet with several schools from around eastern Washington. Whitworth freshman London Haley competed in the men’s 800m and finished 16th clocking just over two minutes. He is from Duvall and a 2023 Cedarcrest HS grad.
