Saturday diamond cuts

Time now for last night’s action. We’ll get to some basketball on tap but we first want to focus on diamond cuts. Softball to start and it was a big night last night up north in Kenmore for Mount Si High School’s softball ladies, as their varsity saw how playing as a team can result in winning as a team.

Mount Si bats unloaded 21 total hits, with every single player in their lineup getting at least one of those hits, and it all added up to a 19-13 slugfest win over Inglemoor’s Vikings. Avery Bielenberg had three of those hits, the headliner of which was a fifth-inning grand slam that keyed a six-run frame for the Wildcats as they landed their first Kingco win. She finished with seven RBI’s. The granny was one of three Mount Si homers in the contest; Anna Braukus and Westyn Haigh also homered, with Haigh, a freshman, getting her first at the high school level, congratulations from us here to you Westyn on that accomplishment, which came in the form of a lead-off solo shot in that fateful fifth for the Wildcats.

The Toney’s – Gabi and Gracie – both homered for the Vikings. Mount Si hosts Woodinville on Monday. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie.

Wildcat JV rallies for win: Sam Santo hit her second homer in the past three games as Mount Si’s junior varsity had a pair of five-run frames in the fourth and fifth to rally for a 12-9 win over the Inglemoor JV’s last night in Kenmore. Madison Brand got the win in the circle for Mount Si allowing a run on four hits in three innings of relief striking out eight. She helped her own cause hitting a double and triple each, driving in three runs. The Wildcats host Woodinville Monday. Game time is 4:30 p.m. prior to the varsity game.

Cedarcrest explodes: The Red Wolve bats came alive in the third inning last night, scoring seven runs in the frame and that enabled CHS to cruise to a 15-5 mercy rule win over Shorecrest in north Seattle. The game ran just six innings due to the mercy rule. Emma Duke went 2-3 with two runs scored and she also drove in two runs for Cedarcrest, who also got two hits and four RBI’s from Josie Fiala. Peyton Hayes crushed a double to the base of the wall in the sixth inning to seal up the mercy-rule result for CHS, and she also drove in two runs. All of this was music to the ears of Lily Rafferty, and the pitcher did the rest, going the distance allowing the five Shorecrest runs – one earned – on three hits, walking five and striking out 10. “Great win for the girls tonight!!!,” wrote coach Gary Damron on the team’s Facebook page following the contest. CHS is at Sammamish on Monday. Game time is 4:30 pm at Sammamish High School in Bellevue. The school is at 140th Ave. SE and Main Street, off I-90 exit 11 (Eastgate) or I-405 exit 12 (SE 8th Street).

Baseball: Mount Si bats go cold in pitcher’s duel loss to Inglemoor
This week has been kind of a week of extremes for Mount Si. They got blown out in their Kingco opener Monday at Issaquah, only to return that favor on Redmond in the Wildcats’ league home opener Wednesday. So last night, the boys came back down to earth and fell in a tight one.

Inglemoor’s Levi Stark pitched a complete-game two-hitter striking out four as the Vikings used his stellar performance to blank Mount Si 1-0 at home in Kenmore. An RBI triple by Carter Saladin in the second proved to be the difference in this one for the Vikings as they held off the Wildcat bats. Matt Talbot and Clay Crooks had the lone hits for Mount Si in the game. Owen Krasowski pitched five solid innings for scarlet and gray, allowing a run on three hits walking four and striking out three.

The Wildcats are home Monday with Woodinville. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie.

Vikings JV wins a marathon: Tied 2-2 going into the ninth, the Inglemoor JV’s scored three times with two outs in that frame and held off Mount Si’s junior varsity 5-4 last night in Snoqualmie. Jayden White went 2-4 pacing the Wildcats, who travel to Woodinville on Monday to play the Falcons. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Woodinville High School.
