Braukus sparks Mount Si softball to key Kingco home win over Issy….and the rest of the news on this Thursday!

Good morning everyone. Busy Thursday and we lead things off with some softball. Mount Si High School’s ladies opened the second half of Kingco play on a strong note, as the bats got going against Issaquah.

Anna Braukus hit a pair of homers, and Maya Engel also homered for the Wildcats, as Mount Si overcame another rough defensive performance to post a 10-6 win over the Eagles at home in Snoqualmie. Jenna Nowak hung tough in the circle for Mount Si, with the freshman allowing only one of those six Issy runs as earned due to five Mount Si errors on seven hits, walking one and striking out six. Ally Hetzel doubled and tripled driving in two runs for the Wildcats. Shae Erickson went the distance in the circle for Issy and it was not a good night for her as she allowed the 10 Mount Si runs on 14 hits. Erickson, though, homered, so it was not all bad for her in this one. The teams are off the remainder of this week for spring break.

Also:

Craig homer sparks Cedarcrest: Paityn Craig homered for the second time this season, and that sparked Cedarcrest High School’s ladies, as they posted a 13-3 run-rule win over Mountlake Terrace last night at Mountlake Terrace High School. Abby Combs tripled twice, driving in a run and scoring a second, and all of that was music to the ears of Lily Rafferty and the Red Wolves junior pitcher delivered in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned, on only four hits, walking one and striking out 10. Rafferty has emerged as a dominant force in CHS’s pitching staff this spring, and that can mean only good things moving forward. Peyton Hayes put an end to things with a two-run sixth-inning single scoring Emma Duke and Jo Krivanek to notch the run-rule result. CHS hosts Arlington next Tuesday at home in Duvall.

Here’s the remainder of last night’s scores and highlights from GameChanger and their apps.

North Creek 10, Woodinville 0: Emma Gochenour homered twice for the Jaguars, aiding pitcher Reagan Fleming, and she did the rest, firing a one-hitter walking one and striking out 11 as North Creek handled the Falcons at home in Snohomish County.

Snohomish 14, Edmonds-Woodway 1: We mention this Wesco clash as there was a combined no-no in this one. Panther hurlers Alex Flohr and Shelby Gilbert delivered the feat for Snohomish as they cruised to the home win over the Warriors. Hannah Siegler homered in this one for the Panthers.

Redmond 7, Newport 1
Eastlake 14, Inglemoor 6
Bothell 7, Skyline 1
Marysville-Getchell 7, Archbishop Murphy 5

College action now:

Russell Sage 13, Skidmore 9 (game one, doubleheader): A double from North Bend’s Madison Bonham with the bases loaded cleared the bases and sparked an eight-run explosion to start the game in the first inning, but the Thoroughbreds could not close the deal and fell in the first of two at home in Saratoga Springs, NY, to their in-state rivals. Bonham, a sophomore and 2022 Mount Si HS grad, finished 1-4 with that double, a run scored and four RBI’s.

MIT 2, Simmons 0 (game one, doubleheader): The Sharks were no-hit in the first of two by MIT pitcher Caroline Langmeyer, hailing from Ohio. The sophomore struck out 10. Fellow sophomore Emery Kreidel-Reimer, she of North Bend and Bonham’s 2022 Mount Si classmate, was 0-1 with one of those strikeouts for Simmons.

Fordham 8, Army 1: The Rams made the short trip up I-87 to West Point, NY, from their home campus in New York City and scored their sixth straight win. Senior Michaela Carter, she of Duvall and a 2019 Cedarcrest HS grad, was 0-4 with a run scored in the game for Fordham.

Skidmore 8, Russell Sage 7 (game two, doubleheader): A Bonham two-run homer keyed a six-run onslaught in the final frame enabling the Thoroughbreds to escape with a split of the twinbill in walkoff fashion. She finished 1-4 with the run and two RBI’s from the round-tripper, which was her first of the season and second as a collegian (she hit a homer last season as a freshman).

MIT 7, Simmons 5 (game two, doubleheader): Simmons broke out of the blocks with a five-run third, forcing the ranked MIT crew to rally for the win and sweep of the twinbill at home in Cambridge, MA, over their Boston-area rivals. Kreidel-Reimer was 0-3 in this one for the Sharks.

Baseball: Russell, Davis spark Mount Si to win over Redmond
Mount Si High School’s baseball team has been looking for that one spark all season to spark a strong push to close out the regular schedule. They may have gotten that last night, as they scored four runs in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and picked up a nice road win over Redmond.

A double by Kenny Russell scoring Taylor Davis sparked that four-run sixth as Mount Si took the 6-2 result over the Mustangs at Hartman Park. Russell finished with two hits, a run scored and that RBI as the Wildcats stayed in the thick of the Kingco postseason hunt with the win. Pitcher Jimmy Pratapas scattered just three hits and a run allowed in six innings of strong pitching for Mount Si, striking out five. Davis was 2-4 with that run scored for the Wildcats. Chase Lawson homered in the seventh for Redmond but by then it was too little, too late for the Mustangs. Mount Si is home tomorrow hosting Inglemoor. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie.

Wildcat JV’s fall: Scotty Corder had two hits, but Mount Si’s entire team only had four in the whole game, and that relatively cold offense contributed to a 10-3 home loss in the junior varsity game at home in Snoqualmie to Redmond’s JV’s. Grayson Clement had three hits for the Mustangs. Mount Si is at Inglemoor tomorrow.

Kingco 4A scores and highlights from GameChanger and their app:

Newport 6, Inglemoor 1: Jace Rainey led Newport with three hits and three runs, and that was music to the ears of pitcher Carson Herr and he did the rest with a dominant complete-game performance, allowing a run on six hits as the Knights bested the Vikings in Kenmore. Herr walked one and struck out four. Kobin Mullins paced Inglemoor with two hits.

Skyline 7, Woodinville 1
Issaquah 2, North Creek 0
Bothell 8, Eastlake 5

College action from last night:

Spokane 7, Columbia Basin 2 (game one, doubleheader): This week’s edition of NWAC East Division Wednesday takes us to Pasco where the Sasquatch handled the Hawks in the first of two. Freshman Alex Chamberlain, he of Snoqualmie and a 2023 Mount Si HS grad, was 0-4 in this one for CBC.

Blue Mountain 7, Yakima Valley 5 (game two, doubleheader): After winning the first game, Blue Mountain took the nightcap of two at home in Pendleton, OR getting the sweep over the visiting Yaks. Sophomore pitcher Tyler Disch worked the eighth inning in relief for YVCC, with the 2022 Mount Si alum striking out one in an otherwise uneventful frame with no decision. He is from Snoqualmie.

Columbia Basin 6, Spokane 1 (game two, doubleheader): The Hawks bested the Sasquatch in the nightcap of two in the Tri-Cities notching a split of the twinbill. Chamberlain was 2-3 with two RBI’s in the game for CBC.

Lacrosse: Mount Si boys wrap up Texas trip
Mount Si Lacrosse Club’s boys’ high school squad finished up their trip to Texas last night with a game against Southlake of Carroll in suburban Dallas. We have no report from that game, but do from Tuesday’s game with Episcopal School of Dallas. The Wildcats fell 17-4 with Levi Henretig scoring twice. A.J. Spence and Luca Toldo aldo had a goal each in this one for Mount Si. The Wildcats resume play next Wednesday taking on Bellevue at Bellevue High School.

College action from last night, with a pair of Mount Si boys’ alums playing in men’s competition:

Roanoke 25, Guilford 6: The Maroons scored 10 first quarter goals and cruised to a home win over the visiting in-state foe at home in Salem, VA. Freshman Aidan Landgraf, he a Mount Si Lacrosse Club/Mount Si HS grad from last June and from Snoqualmie, assisted on a goal in the third quarter for Roanoke in this one.

Arcadia 17, Lebanon Valley 11: The Dutchmen fell on the road in conference action in Pennsylvania. Manning goal in this one for LVC was sophomore Kellen Markley. He is from Snoqualmie and a 2022 MSLC/MSHS grad. He faced 39 total shots in the game, allowing all 17 Arcadia goals but making 22 saves.
