Diamond cuts…and a little soccer, too….

Time now for our news this morning. We lead off with some baseball. Last night was not a good night for Cedarcrest High School’s baseball team, as they ran right into a buzzsaw known as Shorewood, and could not recover in a loss to the StormRays.

Shorewood sent 16 hitters to the plate, scoring 12 of them in the first inning, and despite the Red Wolves’ best efforts, Cedarcrest fell 13-6 at Meridian Park in north Seattle to the StormRays. Cooper Ayers was 2-3 leading Cedarcrest with a double, two RBI’s and a run scored. Charlie Stalnaker also had a double as part of a two-hit effort, walking once, scoring a run and driving in a second. Quinn Larson also doubled and had a run scored in the game for the Red Wolves. They wrap up the regular season tomorrow at home in Duvall against the StormRays at 4:00 p.m.

Red Wolves blown out at home by Mavs: In a makeup game at home in Duvall from an earlier rainout this past Saturday, Meadowdale blasted Cedarcrest 17-3, scoring 14 of those runs over the final two innings to put that one away. Larson went 2-3 with a run and RBI for CHS while Tristan Dodds doubled three times for the Mavericks driving in five runs.

Mount Si “C” sweeps pair from non-conference foe: Mount Si High School’s “C” squad swept a pair of five-inning games last night from Sultan, beating the Turks 8-1 and 9-8 in the two games at home in Snoqualmie. Zach Zilmer and Eli Terry both tripled in the opener for Mount Si, with Terry scoring two runs and Zilmer driving in two more. Pitchers Wyatt Forsman and Carter Templeton combined on a one-hitter, walking one and striking out six pacing the Wildcats, who got contributions from those same players in the nightcap. Templeton had two hits, scored two runs and drove in a third run, while Zilmer had a hit, run scored and three RBI’s and Forsman added a hit, run scored and RBI. Sultan will be partially associated with the Kingco Conference next school year but remain a member of the 1A Emerald Sound Conference, who they are currently members of, as a 2A school following state high school sports reclassification.

The two wins came off a heartbreaking loss for the Wildcats this past Saturday, as they fell in a walk-off 9-8 to Newport in eight innings down in Bellevue. There, Templeton and Zilmer both had a double each, and combined to drive in five runs for Mount Si.

The rest of last night’s high school baseball scores from Wesco, from our friends at GameChanger and their apps, available on phones and tablets in their app stores:

Shorecrest 9, Lynnwood 0: Shorecrest ace Jakob Lockwood fired a two-hitter striking out 13 for the Scots as they rolled over the Royals up in Lynnwood. Brooks Murray powered Shorecrest offensively, doubling to headline a two-hit effort; he scored two runs and drove in three more for the Scots.

Edmonds-Woodway 5, Meadowdale 0: Like Lockwood for the Scots, EdWood’s Lucas Wanke was dominant on the hill for the Warriors last night, himself firing a two-hitter as EdWood blanked the Mavericks. The sophomore walked four and struck out seven, and was helped offensively by Cruz Escandon, who had two hits and scored a run.

Mountlake Terrace 8, Cascade 5 (8): The Hawks broke a 5-5 tie scoring three runs in the eighth inning to sink the Bruins in Everett. Talan Zenk paced Mountlake going 3-5 with three runs scored and driving in two more.

College Baseball: Tennessee Tech blows out local foe
Tennessee Tech University’s baseball squad used a six-run fifth inning to sink visiting Lipscomb University 8-1 last night in a battle of the Nashville-area rivals at Tech’s campus in Cookeville, about a 45-minute drive east of the Tennessee state capitol city.

Senior Troy Baunsgard, from North Bend, went 1-3 with a walk and run scored for the Golden Eagles, who moved to 26-15 on the season in advance of a weekend road set against in-state foe University of Tennessee-Martin this weekend in Martin, TN. Baunsgard is a 2020 Mount Si HS alum and currently is having a solid spring, hitting .325 with six homers and 24 RBI’s.

Boys’ Soccer: Wildcats miss chance at first place in Kingco 4A
In what arguably considering the implications of the contest was the biggest game for Mount Si High School’s boys’ soccer program in the Ben Tomlisson era, the Wildcats could not recover from an early onslaught by Redmond and fell to the Mustangs in a battle for top spot in Kingco 4A last night in Redmond.

The Mustangs scored two early goals and held on to beat Mount Si 2-1 at Redmond High School. Redmond scored their goals in the first 20 minutes of play, then the Wildcats moved closer before the end of the first half with a goal from Zach Ramsey, his school-record 26th of the season. But Mount Si couldn’t get any closer than that in the second half, and remained in third place in Kingco with the loss. The Wildcats finish the regular season Friday at home against Newport, with a win locking up a top-three seed into the WesKing playoffs from the conference. Game time at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie is 7:30 p.m.
