The weekend wrap!

Good Monday morning. We have your weekend wrap for you this morning.

Baseball
Whitworth 13, George Fox 8 (game one, doubleheader): The Pirates took care of business in the first of two with the Bruins in Newberg, OR. Junior Kevin Corder, he of Snoqualmie and a 2021 Mount Si High School alum, in late duty as the team’s DH walked once and scored a run pacing Whitworth.

Pierce 15, Lower Columbia 4 (game one, doubleheader): The Raiders rolled to the win in the first of two with the Red Devils in community college action in Longview. Sophomore Jake Smith, from Snoqualmie and a 2022 Mount Si alum, was 1-4 with a run scored and RBI pacing LCC.

Columbia Basin 4, Wenatchee Valley 1 (game one, doubleheader): CBC posted the win in the first of two over in Wenatchee. Freshman Alex Chamberlain, also from Snoqualmie and a 2023 MSHS’er, was 1-4 with an RBI for the Hawks.

Tennessee Tech 16, Eastern Illinois 14: The fans watching this one in Cookeville, TN, got their money’s worth and then some as the two teams combined for 30 runs and 30 hits in this one. Senior Troy Baunsgard aided the victorious Golden Eagle effort, going 2-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI’s. Baunsgard is from North Bend and a 2020 Mount Si HS grad.

Whitworth 5, George Fox 2 (game two, doubleheader): Whitworth took the nightcap of the twinbill in Oregon’s Willamette Valley over the Bruins, sweeping the set. Corder got the start at third base for the Pirates and was 0-3 with an RBI.

Lower Columbia 5, Pierce 2 (game two, doubleheader): LCC rebounded in the nightcap with the Raiders getting the win and splitting the doubleheader. Smith, for the Red Devils, was 1-2 with a run scored and RBI.

Columbia Basin 6, Wenatchee Valley 3 (game two, doubleheader): Basin swept the pair from WVC in Wenatchee, scoring the win in the nightcap. Chamberlain, for the Hawks, was 2-5 with a double and run scored.

Softball
Loyola-Chicago 2, Fordham 1: A homer from Duvall’s Michaela Carter powered Fordham, but it was a homer from L-C’s Sydney Barnett in the bottom of the ninth that served as walk-off magic as the Rams fell in their regular season finale. The homer for the 2019 Cedarcrest HS grad and Ram senior was her first of the season and third as a collegian following a pair she hit in 2022.

Simmons 5, LaSell 4 (Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals, Newton, MA): The magic carpet ride in this conference tournament continued yesterday for the Sharks as they stunned one of the top seeds in the host LaSell team for the second straight day to advance to the NCAA Division III league’s tournament championship series this weekend. They will be traveling to Maine to meet St. Joseph’s College in a best two-of-three affair to decide the automatic qualifier from the conference into the NCAA D-III tournament. Sophomore Emery Kreidel-Reimer, from North Bend and a 2022 Mount Si HS alum, was 0-3 in the game for Simmons.

Lacrosse
Regis 19, Colorado Mesa women 6 (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title game, Denver): The Rangers, as expected, cruised over the Mavericks in the NCAA Division II league’s title game on home soil in the Mile High City. Junior Emme Rezoski, she of Duvall and a 2021 Cedarcrest HS/Mount Si Lacrosse Club alum, had no stats of note in this one for CMU despite starting in the contest.

Willamette 12, Whitworth women 6 (Northwest Conference semifinals, Salem, OR, Sat.): The historic season for the Pirates women – and their freshman star from the Valley – came to an end on Saturday with the loss to the Bearcats in the Oregon capital. Freshman Campbell Vincent, she a 2023 MSHS/MSLC grad from Snoqualmie, scored two more goals and finished with a Whitworth school record 56 goals in a season, for a Pirate team that finished with their best record in school history at 12-6. Good stuff.

Illinois Wesleyan 12, Elmhurst men 11 (OT, CCIW men’s title game, Bloomington, IL, Sat.): The trio of Valley boys on the Blue Jays all scored goals, including what could have been the game winner by one Eli Spence. But Wesleyan rallied for the walk-off overtime win on a pair of goals from top player Gage Black to send IWU into the NCAA Division III tournament. Sophomore Spence had three goals and an assist, senior Chris Haycock had a goal and helper and freshman Gabe Henry also scored a goal in the game. The three are all from Snoqualmie and are MSHS/MSLC alums. The team finished 14-3 so we’ll see if they get entry into the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Colorado Mesa women 14, UC-Colorado Springs 8 (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference semifinals, Denver, Friday): Mesa opened the weekend this past Friday with a semifinal win over the ladies from the Springs. Rezoski had an assist and four draw controls (faceoff wins) in the game for CMU.

Soccer
Lower Valley athlete playing professionally in men’s league: As many of you know, the Snoqualmie Valley has a women’s professional soccer player to call their own – North Bend’s Nikki Stanton, who plays for the National Women’s Soccer League’s Seattle Reign FC. Well, you can add a Duvall product to that list, on the men’s side.

Defender Chris Cole is in his fourth season this spring playing for the Richmond Kickers. The Kickers, based in Virginia, are a team in the United Soccer League’s Tier One league, which is two levels below Major League Soccer and includes a team this season over in Spokane playing out of the new high school football stadium over there, One Spokane Stadium, which replaced the venerable Joe Albi Stadium. Cole did not play in the Kickers’ most recent game, which happened this past Friday and ended in a 1-1 tie with the One Knoxville SC squad from Tennessee but has played in four games this season for Richmond, who is currently 1-3-2 (wins/losses/ties) this season. Cole, a Cedarcrest HS grad, played soccer collegiately for Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina.

The Kickers take on the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC from Tennessee this weekend.
