News on your Friday!

Good Friday morning. Let’s lead things off with a little track and field. Cedarcrest High School’s track and field team hosted Cascade of Everett along with Mountlake Terrace for Wesco action yesterday in Duvall. Another solid effort for both teams helped the Red Wolves hold their own with their league counterparts, as the girls won the team title in the three-way meet and the boys took second.

Chase Meikle led the boys’ event winners, sweeping both hurdles events. Meikle took the 110 meter shorter distance in a time of 16.54 seconds and the longer 300m distance with a time of 41.86. A pair of Red Wolve boys’ relays also won their races. CHS’s 4×200 crew of Micha Nelson, Blake Orme, Finlay Pudwill and Owen Hart won that race in a time of 1:38.37, and the Red Wolve 4×400 unit of Dylan Siko, Jake DiMarzio, Isaac Sanchez-Godinez and Nick Berens won that race with a time of 3:45.80. A Red Wolve crew of Nate Bergman, Justin Bright, Pierce Graham and Caleb Tobing finished runner-up, about eight seconds behind the winning Cedarcrest unit.

Ethan Swenson led a one-two Red Wolve finish in the boys’ 800m clocking 1:57.88. Bergman finished second in that race about four seconds behind his Cedarcrest teammate. Rounding things out for the guys, Juuso Luoto won the javelin with a toss of 156 feet, four inches, and Jason Brimley cleared 10 feet to win the pole vault.

The girls were equally as successful, with a couple of school record showings. CHS’s girls’ 4×200 crew of Kaylee Scott, Lydia Swenson, Summer Soptich and Laine McKenzie clocked 1:45.69 to win that race and break the previous 4×200 record set by Laine’s sister Grace along with her teammates Kiley Frank, Sydney Smith and Lauren Krause back in 2019. Laine also herself bettered her triple jump record clearing 37’2” and leading a top three CHS sweep in that event. Kiley Hobbs was second and Mira Knowlton was third in that event.

Soptich won the 100m clocking 13.4 seconds, and Addy Jenkins took the 200m with a time of 28.38. Swenson won the 400m with a time of 1:01.47, with Scott as the runner-up in that race about three seconds behind. Cassidy Moon brought home the 800m for the Red Wolves clocking 2:38.36 and the CHS 4×400 unit of Jenkins, Elise Luoto, McKenzie and Swenson won that race with a time of 4:23.26.

Rounding it out for the ladies, Maddy Brooks won the discus with a toss of 113’5”, Kiki Anderson took the high jump clearing 4’6” and Scott won the pole vault clearing 8 feet. Teammate Fiona Pavlovsky was runner-up in that event for the Red Wolves.

Cedarcrest will be split this weekend, competing tomorrow at both the Shoreline Invitational and the Sunny and 70 Invitational up in Arlington.

Mount Si’s track and field squad is at the Shoreline event tomorrow. They were off yesterday from Kingco action.

Softball: Game gets switched to the other team’s field, but no matter for Red Wolve bats…..
The rain yesterday and Cedarcrest High School’s squad needing to get their game in with Shorewood resulted in the game being moved from CHS’s grass facility in Duvall to Shorewood’s turf field in north Seattle. That didn’t matter though to the Red Wolve bats as they put on a home run derby. Cedarcrest hitters hit a total of five round-trippers in a 19-9 rout of the StormRays.

Lily Rafferty hit two homers, and Abby Combs, Josie Fiala and Peyton Hayes also homered. Hayes’s was a grand slam and she along with Combs each drove in six runs pacing the Red Wolve onslaught in this one. Hayes, Combs and Rafferty combined to go 8-11 on the day scoring six runs and driving in a total of 15. Good stuff.

CHS is slated to be home again today but with the rain this morning, it either is likely to be rained out or moved. We’ll let you know on “X” @snovalleysports what happens with today’s game.

Baseball: Mount Si “C” falls to MI
Mount Si’s “C” team was held to three hits and fell 11-1 last night at home to Mercer Island in Snoqualmie. Kainoa Keith had two of the hits and scored the lone Wildcat run. The team wraps up the season tomorrow with a doubleheader at home against Hazen beginning at 11am and lasting until around 3:30pm.

Cedarcrest’s varsity was also scheduled to play a home game last night with Shorewood but that was rained out. There was however some other Wesco action which we can recap here, courtesy of GameChanger and their app, available on phones and tablets in their app store.

Shorecrest 8, Lynnwood 0: Shorecrest pitchers Hudson Cunningham and Dillon Carrell combined to no-hit the Royals last night at home in Shoreline, scattering a total of seven walks but striking out a total of 15 hitters for the Scots in this one. Good stuff. Jakob Lockwood guided Shorecrest offensively, with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

Edmonds-Woodway 2, Meadowdale 1: The Warriors won last night in the most inopportune fashion – someone taking one for the team. Ed-Wood’s Lucas Wanke, up with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the seventh, was hit by a pitch, and that scored Diego Escandon with the walk-off run as the Warriors escaped at home in Edmonds. Hopefully, Wanke wasn’t seriously hurt by the pitch. The result made a winner of relief pitcher Finn Crawford, who pitched two no-hit innings walking two and striking out three. Starter Griffin Marshall-Inman worked five innings for EdWood, allowing a run on three hits walking four and striking out four. Meadowdale pitcher Andy Wells also did well in his five innings of work, allowing a run on four hits walking five and striking out five.

Mountlake Terrace 7, Cascade 6: Mountlake took a big early lead on the Bruins at home last night in Mountlake Terrace, but had to hold on through a late rally to take the win. Talan Zenk led Mountlake going 1-3 with two RBI’s.

Golf: Cedarcrest ladies fall despite medalist win
The Cedarcrest High School girls’ golf squad had a strong showing from their top competitor, but it was not enough as they dropped a 198-208 decision, lower score wins, at home in Carnation to visiting Meadowdale.

Hadley McDonough won medalist honors for low round of the match for the Red Wolves, carding a three-over par 38 on the par-5 front nine at Blue Heron Golf Course. Rachel Reitz carded a 42 leading the Mavericks, and their golfers also finished fourth through sixth in the overall team scores helping Meadowdale take the team win. Kari Petterson was fourth, followed by teammates Gwen Farrow in fifth and Grace Lee in sixth for the Mavericks. Katie Linder fired a 44 to take third overall for the Red Wolves. They will continue competition next week.

Lacrosse: Kremer leads Mount Si ladies
Alex Kremer scored five goals last night for Mount Si Lacrosse’s girls’ team as they bested Bellevue 13-6 at home inside Mount Si High School’s stadium in Snoqualmie. Julia Stanley added three goals and four assists pacing the Wildcats, and goals were also scored in the game by Sydney Schmitt, Alexa Coughran and Bianca Meehan. Kremer now has around 40 or so goals this season, which is among the top totals in the state.

Goalie Francesca Tamburini made 11 saves in the game for Mount Si. They host Eastside Catholic next Tuesday at home in Snoqualmie. The game begins at 7:30pm at MSHS.

College men’s action from Wednesday featuring MSLC boys’ alums:

Lebanon Valley rolls: NCAA Division III Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania rolled to a 22-7 win on Senior Night over visiting FDU-Florham at home outside Harrisburg, PA. Goalie Kellen Markley, a sophomore and from Snoqualmie, made six saves on seven shots faced as LVC broke out of the gate quickly with 10 first-quarter goals and cruised, allowing Markley to be lifted at halftime in favor of backup William Ward.

No Spence, no problem for Elmhurst: Snoqualmie’s Eli Spence has been one of the top scorers for Elmhurst College’s men this spring. But he missed the NCAA Division III Blue Jays’ home game against Carroll College of Wisconsin. No matter though as the team, aided by the other two members of their Valley trio, rolled to an easy 20-6 win at home outside Chicago.

Gabe Henry scored twice and Chris Haycock added a goal and assist as Elmhurst used a ten goal second quarter to take a 16-2 lead at halftime, then cruised in the second half. Spence is the team leader in scoring this spring with 47 goals and 30 assists, so it is hoped he’ll be back for the regular season finale tomorrow for the Elmhurst squad. Henry and Haycock, like Spence, are also from Snoqualmie.
