Diamond cuts on a Sunday…..

Time for some baseball this morning. Mount Si High School’s baseball “C” team dominated Redmond in a doubleheader sweep yesterday at home in Snoqualmie. The Wildcats blasted the Mustangs 10-1 in the opener then did the same in the nightcap 11-1. In the opener, the story was the dominant pitching of Blake Helman and Kainoa Keith, who combined on a three-hitter striking out five. Eli Terry was a busy bee offensively, going 1-2 with two runs scored. Terry stole four of Mount Si’s 10 total bases in the game, demonstrating his speed and field awareness. Good stuff.

The nightcap saw Cole Taylor lead the way going 3-4 with a triple, run scored and three RBI’s helping pitcher Jackson Barter, and he did the rest, allowing an unearned run on two hits in three innings, walking two and striking out one. Carter Templeton also had two hits, including a double, scoring twice and driving in two more runs.

Mount Si meets Issaquah Tuesday night. The game is at Central Park, which is located at 1907 NE Park Drive in the Issaquah Highlands. To get there, take I-90 exit #18 as you normally would if you were going to Issaquah High School. Instead of turning left though at the end of the ramp, turn right and head up the hill into the Highlands. Make your way past the RAM Restaurant onto NE Park Drive and head up the hill. Look for Central Park Drive NE on your right and turn right. Baseball field parking will be at the end of this driveway.

Smith, a sophomore from Snoqualmie, was 0-3 in the game for the Red Devils while Jarocki was 0-2 with two walks and Chamberlain was 1-4 with a run as CBC picked up the split of the twinbill.

He did not pitch in the first game, also won by Centralia giving them the sweep of the twinbill at home in downtown Centralia.

Softball: Local tournament with Valley representation
Those of you traveling between North Bend and Snoqualmie on SR 202 yesterday and wondered about what was going on at Sirius Sports Complex in North Bend, a major regional youth softball tournament was taking place.

The Medal of Honor event has brought together some of the top 14U age level teams from around the Puget Sound region for competition this weekend. Three teams with local players are competing in the event. Wildcat Fastpitch Club, based in Snoqualmie, along with Fall City-based KB Riley and the Snohomish-based Snohomish Shock Campbell.

Of note last night, KB and WFC squared off, and it was all KB in this one. Sami Garrett pitched a perfect game for KB with nine strikeouts as the Riley crew rolled 15-0. Vera McCann had two hits, both doubles, for KB, scoring twice and driving in three more runs. KB looked very dominant yesterday as they went 3-0 outscoring opponents 40-4 in the three games. Pitcher Keeley Cohen no-hit the south King County-based Freedom Fastpitch in last night’s nightcap, and helped her own cause offensively with two hits including a triple scoring twice in a 12-0 blowout.

All was not lost for WFC though as they came back and won two other games. Anushka Dasgupta had two hits including a double scoring a run and driving in a second for the ‘Cats in a 12-11 win over Freedom, then Haley Saldivar added a hit, walk, two runs scored and an RBI for WFC in a 7-6 win over Hotshots, also from south King County.

Tolt Middle School’s Olivia Lowell is with the Shock, and she went hitless yesterday but scored a run and drove in two more for the Shock in a 9-6 loss to the Washington Avengers from Enumclaw. Shock rebounded last night and beat a Woodinville team and will wrap up pool play later this morning.

Games in the tournament are underway now and will run all day for both 10U and 14U age levels. Title games are tonight. Plan on delays around the complex if you will be traveling around the area today.

Elsewhere:

USSSA Spring Training tournament in Snohomish County also features local reps: This weekend’s tournaments in the Everett area being run by the USSSA also feature local athletes.

Of note, there was a mini-Valley Cup rivalry in one game yesterday, as lower Valleyite Maddie Davis and her Washington Ladyhawks Carter 14U’s took on Bellevue’s Stod’s Storm 14U’s, with upper Valleyite Lyla Taylor. The two girls played for their respective teams in that contest, with Davis walking twice and scoring two runs for the ‘Hawks in a 17-0 blowout of Stod’s. Taylor pitched an inning in the contest for Stod’s allowing three runs on three hits with a walk and strikeout taking the loss. Carter went on to go 3-0 on the day and Stod’s won both of their other games as well, so it is possible the teams will meet again in playoff action today.

WFC’s 12U West team is also in action in this event, and had three very extreme showings yesterday, with a pair of blowout wins and a blowout loss. One of the blowout wins came over a team from the Northwest Grapettes organization based in Kirkland that is being coached this weekend by Mount Si High School alum Kate Gotts. Gotts, who pitched for the Wildcats, led Mount Si to a state berth in 2022, her senior season. That state berth was the first for the Wildcats in over a decade.

Playoffs in that tournament are also today. College note:

Fordham swept on road: Fordham University’s ladies made the trek up to Amherst, MA, this past Friday for two with the University of Massachusetts. UMass swept the twinbill, taking the opener 13-10 then the nightcap in walk-off fashion 8-7 in extra innings. Senior Michaela Carter went 2-4 with two runs scored in the opener for the Rams, then was 0-4 in the nightcap. She is from Duvall and a 2019 Cedarcrest HS grad. Fordham finishes their series with the Minutemen today.
