Time for a little softball….Cedarcrest, Mount Si both record blowout wins!

Time for some softball. Cedarcrest High School’s ladies traveled into Bellevue yesterday afternoon to see a future Kingco opponent in Sammamish, and based on how things looked, it would seem the Red Wolves are going to be just fine if they have to face the Redhawks in league competition next spring.

Jo Krivanek doubled twice to headline a three-hit effort, scoring two runs and driving in five more, pacing CHS’s 19-4 blowout win over Sammamish at Sammamish High School. CHS scored runs in all five innings played as the game ended early due to the mercy 10-run rule. Abby Combs paced Cedarcrest going 2-3 with a triple scoring two runs and driving in three more, while Josie Fiala tripled scoring three runs and driving in a fourth. Emma Duke went the distance in the circle allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits, walking one and striking out four. She also had two hits offensively, scoring twice and driving in two more runs.

Peyton Hayes and Paxtyn Craig also had doubles in this one for Cedarcrest, who is home this afternoon weather permitting hosting Meadowdale in their Wesco opener. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Cedarcrest High School in Duvall.

Quality work in the circle by freshman duo powers Mount Si: If last night’s performance is any indication, this is exactly what Mount Si’s coaching staff and fans are looking for in 2024. The bats to do their thing, and top freshman pitchers to do theirs and do it well.

The Wildcats got strong offense, but most importantly, saw their two freshman budding star pitchers in Madison Brand and Jenna Nowak work together to shut down a tough Woodinville offense, and those things added up to a nice mercy-rule blowout win for Mount Si, 12-2 in five innings, over the Falcons at home in Snoqualmie.

Addie Craig led the way going 3-4 coming a home run short of hitting for the cycle in this one. She scored twice leading the Wildcats and also drove in two runs. Brand and Nowak worked the full five innings together, combining to allow just two runs on six hits walking one and striking out one. And Nowak helped out on the offensive end of things as well, with a triple and three RBI’s. Bella Scappini also had a strong game, going 3-3 with a run scored.

The Falcons were led by Alex Olson, who had two hits. So for Mount Si, it’s off to Bothell tomorrow to see Julianne Rose and friends. That will not be an easy task. Game time is 5:00 p.m. up at Bothell High School tomorrow.

As for the Wildcat JV’s, they were blown out 17-2 by the Falcon JV. Ainsley Richards had a double and run scored pacing Mount Si, who meets Bothell also tomorrow.

Here is the remainder of last night’s Kingco and Wesco action, powered by the great folks at GameChanger and their app. Available on phones and tablets in their app stores.

Monroe 20, Edmonds-Woodway 5: Monroe rolled to a Wesco 2A/3A win with the help of a pair of players who are familiar faces in our coverage of local select action. Freshman Holly Pettit, a teammate of Nowak’s on the Woodinville-based Absolute Blast 14U Pettit select team, went the distance in this one in the circle allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits walking four and striking out three, and she also had a hit and two walks scoring three runs. And Vivian Knuckey, who is a teammate of both Fiala and Mount Si’s Georgia Dennis on a second AbB squad coached by CHS assistant Andy Rafferty, had two hits scoring a run and driving in two more. Renee Riggins led Ed-Wood with three hits, including a double, driving in a run.

North Creek 6, Eastlake 5 (8): The Jaguars needed extras and a little walk-off magic to stun the Wolves at home last night in Snohomish County. A double from Reagan Fleming in the eighth scored Emma Gochenour, completing a two-run comeback in that frame for the Jaguars in the walk-off win. She also homered driving in three RBI’s for North Creek, while Eastlake’s Lindsay Ferguson homered powering the Wolves. It was a pitcher’s duel in this one as both Fleming and the Wolves’ Addi Baumgartner matched each other tit for tat in this one, with Fleming allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits walking four and striking out six while Baumgartner allowed six runs, two earned, on eight hits, walking six and striking out nine. So quality performances for both young ladies but not without their share of challenges. Which could make the next battle between these two if it happens at Eastlake later this season something worth paying some attention to.

Cascade 13, Marysville-Getchell 3: Sophia Tripp and Lauryn Thompson powered the Bruins from south Everett to a blowout Wesco win last night over the Chargers. Swanson had two hits including a triple scoring a run and driving in three more, while Thompson added two hits herself including a double, driving in two runs. Jaidyn Swanson led Getchell with two hits, including a double, scoring a run and driving in a second.

Redmond 4, Skyline 3 (8): This one in Redmond also needed extras, and a little walk-off magic, for the Mustangs to get a nice home win. Julia Cady walked it off with a double scoring Ainsley Barcalow with the winning run for Redmond. Barcalow went seven innings in the circle allowing three runs, two earned, on several hits, walking four and striking out one. Tia Milloy homered for Redmond in the game. Emma Kell doubled and drove in two runs for Skyline and pitcher Abby Haapala went the distance in this one allowing all four runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out 12.

Jackson 7, Snohomish 1: The Timberwolves’ Yanina Sherwood did it all last night as Jackson handled the Panthers in a Wesco cross-classification clash. Sherwood homered twice driving in four runs, then proceeded to shut down Snohomish in the circle, allowing a run on two hits striking out 13 in a complete-game effort. The one Panther run came courtesy of an Avery Clark homer.

Issaquah 12, Newport 2: Freshmen were on a tear last night for the Eagles in their blowout road win over the Knights in Bellevue. Giorgia Graham went 5-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two more runs. Shae Erickson went the distance in the circle, the pitcher allowing two runs on five hits walking one and striking out 11 for Issy in this one, and team leader Riley Baumann led, getting two hits scoring twice and driving in three more runs. Newport was led by Emma Chen, who had two hits, including a triple, driving in two runs.

Everett 11, Arlington 1: A homer from Maddie Pewitt aided Everett as they cruised over Arlington in a Wesco 2A/3A battle. She drove in two runs.

Bothell 11, Inglemoor 0: Julianne Rose and Maya Bell homered for the Cougars, then Rose did the rest in the circle, pitching a one-hitter striking out 12 as the Blue Train handled the Vikings in round one of the Spaghetti Bowl series for 2024 last night at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore.
